Writing a Will is important
Unfortunately, it is not something that our Muslim community is aware of or advised to do. Those who have taken a step forward and learn of the importance of a Will understand that their Estate and wishes are taken care of upon their demise.
If you answer yes to at least one of these questions,
Then you should urgently Write Your Will.
UPON YOUR DEMISE…

Do you want your Beneficiary to be able to manage your Assets with ease?

Do you want your Beneficiary(ies) to know their shares of your Assets without the fighting and arguing?
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) mentioned, “It is a duty of any Muslim who has something to will to stay two nights without having his Last Will and Testament written and kept ready with him.” (Hadith)
SINGLE
A SINGLE (WITH NO CHILDREN)
- Your parents (if they are still alive) will be left with arduous task of handling your Estate.
- Your siblings (if any) will be left wondering what to do of your Estate. There might be arguments of who should get a larger share

REVERT

A REVERT (UNMARRIED),
- Your parents (if they are still alive) will not get any share of your Estate.
- 100% of your Estate will go to Baitulmal (Financial Instution under MUIS held for General Endowment).

A REVERT (MARRIED with NO CHILDREN)
- Your parents (if they are still alive) will not get any share of your Estate.
- Half of your Estate will go to Baitulmal (Financial Instution under MUIS held for General Endowment).

A REVERT (MARRIED with Daughters)
- Your parents (if they are still alive) will not get any share of your Estate.
- A third of your Estate will go to Baitulmal (Financial Instution under MUIS held for General Endowment).
MARRIED

MARRIED WITH NO CHILDREN,
- Your Estate will be distributed to your Spouse, Siblings and Parents (if alive).

MARRIED WITH DAUGHTERS
- Your Estate will be distributed to your Spouse, Daughters, Siblings and Parents (if alive).
- Your daughters will be without a Guardian. Who will manage your children’s inheritance before they reach adulthood?

REMARRIED With/Without Stepchildren
- Your Estate will be distributed to your Spouse and Biological Children.
- There might be issues arising with Stepchildren.
DIVORCED, WIDOWED (WITH CHILDREN)
- CHECK YOUR CPF NOMINATION – A Divorce does not revoke the ex-Spouse’s share in the CPF nomination.
- Your Estate will be distributed to your Children (and Siblings and Parents if you have only Daughters).
- Your children will be without a Guardian. Who will manage your children’s inheritance before they reach adulthood?

ADOPTED CHILD
- Your Adopted Child will not inherit any shares from your Estate.
- Who will manage and take care of your Adopted Child?

CHILD OUT OF WEDLOCK
- Your child will not inherit any shares from your Estate (even if you are the Biological Father). The child can only a portion of inherit the Mother’s Estates.
